Firefighters half way through eight day strike action over pensions
written by Fire Brigades Union on the 17th July 2014 at 14:18

Today will mark the half way point of an eight day strike by firefighters in England and Wales, as part of the continuing pension dispute.

Firefighters will strike for the fourth consecutive day between 5pm – 7pm tonight, following on from similar action this morning between 6am – 8am.

These will be the 22 and 23 periods of strike action since the campaign began.

Matt Wrack, FBU general secretary, said: “I would like to congratulate all firefighters who are standing up for their future, their family’s future and the future of the fire and rescue service by striking this week.

“The government needs to come to the table and offer a fair, workable and affordable pension scheme.

“Union officials will be meeting with the new fire minister at Westminster Penny Mordaunt later today where we hope progress can be made in resolving this dispute.”
