Firefighters have responded to a large industrial fire in Bolton, responding within minutes to ensure any potential damage was kept to a minimum.
It was at 16.51pm this afternoon that firefighters got the call to attend, with a total of 10 fire engines and two aerial appliances in attendance at Raikes Lane Industrial Estate, Bolton.
Upon arrival firefighters were met with flames covering an area approximately measuring 20m x 50m, spread across three stories within the building, requiring the use of five jets to tackle the blaze. Due to the expertise of the crews in attendance, they were able to ensure that the fire wasn’t able to spread any further, bringing the fire well under control 90 minutes after first arriving.
Group Manager John Crawley, Incident Commander at the scene said: “A significant amount of resources arrived at the incident quickly and were able to bring the fire under control. The actions of our staff tonight allowed us to save a large portion of the and surrounding site.
“Firefighters will remain at the incident overnight to liaise and assist with the Viridor management team.”
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
