written by Crime and Justice - UK Crime News on the 01st December 2014 at 17:00

A former PC attached to Newham Borough has appeared today, Monday 1 December at Southwark Crown Court and has been sentenced following committing misconduct in a public office.

Gavin Brown, 34 has been sentenced to three months imprisonment – suspended for 18 months, 175 hours unpaid work, ?1500 fine and a victim surcharge.

He previously pleaded guilty at the court on 22 October to writing and signing statements that were not his and submitting those documents to court.

The statements concerned the arrest and charge of a male in March 2013 in connection with the production of Class B drugs. Gavin Brown apparently lost the case file and was trying to save time.

The case was listed for trial but was discontinued when another officer preparing for court identified the error and reported it to senior officers.

The officer who resigned from the service in August, was subsequently sentenced as above.
