Relax and be safe at Christmas
written by Crimestoppers on the 21st December 2017 at 9:42

With the holiday season in full swing, our Chief Executive Mark Hallas shares some thoughts on the past twelve months and the coming year…

Mark Hallas

Merry Christmas to you all!

It’s great to have a spare moment to write this blog and pause for reflection. The joy of this time of year is being able to spend some quality time with family and friends: to slow the pace, recharge and prepare for the coming year.

It’s been an eventful 2017 – not only in the UK and across the world – but also at the charity I’m proud to lead, Crimestoppers.

Reaping rewards

The most encouraging achievement is that more and more people are putting their trust in us with calls and online contacts up by an impressive 25% over the past year.

With a refreshed brand and a soon-to-be launched new website, we have a fantastic opportunity to embrace even better ways of reaching new audiences to gain their confidence. Everyone has the right to feel safe from crime, wherever they live. We’ll be reinforcing our vision of hope, giving people the power to speak up to stop crime, 100% anonymously.

With at least a fifth of the population refusing to speak to police for whatever reason, our priority now is to ensure that we continue to be trustworthy and effective: a vital bridge between the public and those who protect us.

In your community

Looking ahead to 2018, we will continue to focus on key priorities such as modern day slavery, domestic abuse and serious violence among young people. This has led to some great work in raising awareness and our profile in towns and cities – and rural communities – up and down the country.

Our youth service Fearless is going from strength to strength with a new dedicated worker in the West Midlands and outreach projects in full flow in areas such as South Yorkshire and London.

The Ambassador Programme continues to encourage important organisations at a local level to spread the word about Crimestoppers, and we have a flourishing portfolio of businesses that are keen to work with us to help tackle crime in the workplace and in our communities.

Thank you

Christmas baubleIt’s been an incredibly busy year at Crimestoppers with a great deal of planning and preparing for change as we ensure our charity remains as effective as possible.

So as we pause for the holiday, ahead of embracing change to boost our unique service in the coming year, I’d like to take this opportunity to offer a huge and heartfelt thank you for all your support.

May I wish you a happy, safe and enjoyable Christmas and New Year!

Mark Hallas OBE, CEO Crimestoppers
